{"id":4300,"date":"2019-04-08T00:12:28","date_gmt":"2019-04-08T04:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.successories.com\/blog\/?p=4300"},"modified":"2019-04-08T00:12:28","modified_gmt":"2019-04-08T04:12:28","slug":"how-to-help-a-struggling-employee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.successories.com\/blog\/how-to-help-a-struggling-employee\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Help A Struggling Employee"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Mental Health Awareness day is fast approaching.&nbsp; Given that, it bears thinking about your\ncorporate culture and how your firm might be negatively impacting the mental\nhealth and well-being of your employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not to say that the job you\u2019re asking your employees\nto do is literally driving them crazy, but let\u2019s face it, the modern work\nenvironment is stressful and it\u2019s becoming increasingly more difficult for your\nstaff to balance work and home life.&nbsp;\nThat\u2019s why it is estimated that one adult in five in the United States\nis struggling with some type off mental health issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think about that for just a second.&nbsp; How many employees do you have?&nbsp; That\u2019ll give you a rough estimate of how many\nare struggling right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although few will openly admit it, most of your employees\nwould be grateful if you put more time, attention and emphasis on helping your\nemployees cope with the stress that is an inherent part of modern professional\nlife.&nbsp; With those things in mind, here are\na few ideas you can implement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Be sure to look closely at the health insurance\nyou\u2019re offering to your employees.&nbsp; If\nthe insurance you\u2019ve chosen doesn\u2019t offer mental health coverage provisions,\nstrongly consider switching to one that does.<\/li><li>Make sure all company policies are clearly\nunderstood.&nbsp; Transparency is key\nhere.&nbsp; The last thing you want is to\ncreate a company culture of fear because nobody knows or understands the rules.<\/li><li>Provide your employees with a space and people\nto talk to who won\u2019t judge if they have problems.&nbsp; This could be a member of your Human\nResources department, or if you have the funds for it, an on-site therapist\nwould be even better.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the above, there\u2019s one other thing you can do\nthat\u2019s incredibly important.&nbsp; Promote\nhealthy habits.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two dimensions to this.&nbsp; The first involves promoting healthy\neating.&nbsp; You could do this by having a\nhealth lunch brought in once a month, or even once a quarter.&nbsp; If that\u2019s too rich for your blood, consider\nswapping out some of the unhealthy snacks in the break room vending machines\nwith healthier options.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Definitely don\u2019t swap them all out, but make sure there are\nhealthy choices available.&nbsp; One of those\nhealthy options should be bottled water if you\u2019re not stocking that already.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other thing involves taking steps to improve your\nphysical health.&nbsp; This includes things\nlike bringing in health professionals that give your employees the option to\nexperiment with yoga and meditation, or perhaps a massage therapist who can\ngive your employees a much needed and relaxing massage while they\u2019re working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If those things simply aren\u2019t possible, at the very least,\nconsider working with a local gym to negotiate a discounted membership rate for\nyour employees.&nbsp; If you have unutilized\nspace in your office, you could even start shopping around for exercise\nequipment and set up your own gym.&nbsp;\nBetter physical health promotes better mental health!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final thing to consider here is to simply be more\nmindful and aware.&nbsp; People exhibit signs\nand symptoms when they\u2019re struggling with stress or depression.&nbsp; Learn to recognize those signs and be a\nfriend in need to those who are having difficulty.&nbsp; Yes, your employees work for you, but they\u2019re\nmuch more than just cogs in a wheel.&nbsp;\nTreat them as such.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mental Health Awareness day is fast approaching.&nbsp; Given that, it bears thinking about your corporate culture and how your firm might be negatively impacting the mental health and well-being of your employees.
