Are some of the employees who work for you civic\nminded? Are you aware of their acts of\nvolunteerism? If so, even if you don\u2019t\npersonally celebrate National Volunteer Week in your office, if you know your\nemployees do that sort of thing, recognizing their efforts in the community\nwould be a splendid way of acknowledging them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The simple truth is that all companies of any size should strive to be good corporate citizens.\u00a0 After all, if you\u2019re a small business owner, you don\u2019t just serve the community, you live there too.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In that regard, what happens in the community is very much your business and it could easily wind up impacting your bottom line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The interesting thing though, is that being committed to\nbeing a good corporate citizen pays dividends in its own right. After all, your friends, neighbors, customers\nand potential customers see you. They\nsee what you do and they remember. It\nsticks with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If your potential customers saw you kicking small animals on\nyour way to work every day, you can bet that some of them would simply stop\ndoing business with you. Not that you\u2019d\never do that, of course, but the good news is that the opposite holds true as\nwell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When your customers and potential customers see you going\nout of your way to help improve the community that both you and they live in,\nthey notice. They remember, and as such,\nthey\u2019re more likely to do business with you in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even if resources are stretched so thin that you can\u2019t\nreally afford to take any time out to be a good corporate citizen directly, you\ncan still take the time to acknowledge your employees who volunteer. In fact, there\u2019s a lot you can do to make\ntheir efforts to volunteer even easier. \nHere are a few simple ideas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the pure recognition front, simply calling attention to\ntheir efforts in the company newsletter or on your web page is a good\nstart. If you can afford to take it a\nbit further, then a handwritten note or card from you, along with a restaurant\ngift card or a lunch with the boss is an outstanding touch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you want to go further and make it easier for them to\nvolunteer, you could even spring for a paid day off to go volunteer for anyone\nwho was interested. If that\u2019s\nimpractical then why not consider a fund drive to support the causes your\nemployees volunteer with?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All of these things are going to invariably filter out into\nthe public\u2019s consciousness, even if you don\u2019t talk about them openly beyond the\nconfines of your office and your stock in the community is bound to soar as a\nresult. That\u2019s certainly not a reason to\ndo this sort of thing, but it is a happy side effect OF doing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
