That naturally leads to an interesting question though:&nbsp; What about the other 20%?&nbsp; Why haven\u2019t they embraced the idea?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The answers vary, but broadly speaking, the reasons managers give for not creating one fall into one of the following groups:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It\u2019s too time-intensive\/I don\u2019t have the time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I already pay my employees and that should be sufficient<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I don\u2019t want to coddle\/spoil my employees<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And I don\u2019t want to be seen as playing favorites<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On the surface, those may even seem like good, valid reasons for not taking the plunge and setting up a recognition program.&nbsp; On closer inspection, however, managers who adopt this mindset are only hurting themselves and their companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s first take a quick look at the benefits a well-run recognition program has to offer.&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quantumworkplace.com\/future-of-work\/importance-of-employee-recognition\">These include:<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Higher loyalty\/customer satisfaction scores from customers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased retention of your best employees<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Less employee stress<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Less employee absenteeism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Decreased employee turnover rate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Greater employee satisfaction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And improved productivity and employee engagement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s hard to argue against that basket of positives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As to addressing the most common excuses managers offer when talking about why they can\u2019t or won\u2019t establish a recognition program, it comes down to this:&nbsp; Ask yourself if any of your reasons, or even all of your reasons taken together are providing you more value than the benefits just listed above?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If they\u2019re not, then you\u2019re only fooling yourself, and if you\u2019re worried about the time involved, or being seen as playing favorites, there\u2019s an easy fix for that too:&nbsp; Establish a steering committee made up of your employees.&nbsp; They\u2019ll drive the process using parameters set by you.&nbsp; That distances you from the equation, saving you time and removing any consideration of playing favorites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bottom line is simply this:&nbsp;
