And it may be the biggest issue you have at your company that you\u2019re completely unaware of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is \u201cQuiet Quitting\u201d?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Quiet quitting is a form of malicious compliance.\u00a0 You\u2019ve established what a day\u2019s work should \u201clook like\u201d for your employees and\u2026that\u2019s exactly what they do.\u00a0 That, and not one thing more.\u00a0 Exactly the minimum you set as the benchmark or requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are a Boomer, or to a somewhat lesser extent, Gen X, then you grew up with a different mindset when it came to work.\u00a0 The benchmark was the minimum.\u00a0 The unspoken expectation was that if you finished the minimum amount of work your boss needed you to do, you\u2019d just\u2026keep working.\u00a0 You\u2019d do more, and the idea was that the \u201cmore\u201d would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.successories.com\/employee-awards-recognition\/1\">be recognized<\/a>.\u00a0 Maybe not in hourly pay, but in faster promotions or bigger raises, and the like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Except that, for the overwhelming majority of people, that didn\u2019t happen.&nbsp; Vanishingly few people got faster promotions or bigger raises by going above and beyond.&nbsp; In fact, most people didn\u2019t even get annual raises that kept up with inflation, which meant year over year, their pay actually went down slightly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On top of that, most of these employees watched in horror as their company hired new people who came on board making more than the veterans who had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.successories.com\/employee-awards-recognition\/years-of-service-awards\/1\">been there for years<\/a> were making!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GenZ got wise to that.&nbsp; GenZ took a dim view of that, and they decided to do something about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s not to say that you\u2019ll never find a GenZer who\u2019s willing to go above and beyond.&nbsp; Of course you will.&nbsp; But understand that they are fewer in number and you\u2019re more likely to see GenZer\u2019s who will \u201cquit quietly\u201d by doing exactly what you demand of them and nothing more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if they have free time, where possible, they\u2019ll try to work a side hustle or engage in \u201cpolywork\u201d to make the extra money they\u2019re not getting by working harder for their primary employer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s really no good solution to this problem, and there\u2019s an argument to be made that it\u2019s not really a problem at all.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After all, you as business owner have set the benchmark on the amount of work you want and need to have done in a given timeframe.&nbsp; As long as that work is getting done in the timeframe you\u2019ve established and the quality is at the level you expect, it\u2019s difficult to argue for the existence of a problem to be solved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even so, the current reality of today\u2019s work environment doesn\u2019t sit well with a great many business owners and managers and there\u2019s an active search for ways of shifting the paradigm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatever the solution ultimately is, it almost certainly begins with taking the time to express your appreciation for the contributions of your employees.\u00a0 That probably means <a href=\"https:\/\/www.successories.com\/unique-corporate-gifts\/employee-gifts\/1\">employee gifts<\/a> in one form or another, and we can help with that!\u00a0 Just spend some time browsing through our extensive collection and you\u2019re sure to find the perfect token of your appreciation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You may have heard about &#8220;Quiet Quitting&#8221; but just in case you haven&#8217;t, it&#8217;s one of the many new words that GenZ has coined to describe modern work and work-life balance.
