{"id":6073,"date":"2025-10-24T09:17:24","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T13:17:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.successories.com\/blog\/?p=6073"},"modified":"2025-10-24T09:17:27","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T13:17:27","slug":"culture-starts-on-day-one-onboarding-core-values","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.successories.com\/blog\/culture-starts-on-day-one-onboarding-core-values\/","title":{"rendered":"Culture Starts on Day One: Onboarding New Employees With Your Core Values"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.unsplash.com\/photo-1676276375450-3707e4e624c0?fm=jpg&amp;ixid=M3wxMjA3fDB8MHxzZWFyY2h8Mnx8dGVhbSUyMHZhbHVlc3xlbnwwfHwwfHx8MA%3D%3D&amp;ixlib=rb-4.1.0&amp;q=60&amp;w=3000\" alt=\"Team Values Pictures | Download Free Images on Unsplash\" style=\"width:817px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At some point in your career, you\u2019ve probably worked at a place that really struggled to maintain its corporate culture.\u00a0 It may have felt that with each new hire, the company\u2019s culture drifted farther from what it had once been until it was almost unrecognizable.<br><br>That\u2019s not unusual because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/349484\/state-of-the-global-workplace.aspx?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">according to Gallup<\/a>, only about one in four employees feel strongly connected to their company\u2019s culture, and engagement drops sharply when values aren\u2019t clearly reinforced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you now own your own company, you\u2019re probably keenly interested in making sure that doesn\u2019t happen.&nbsp; In an ideal world, every new employee you bring into the fold would be a kindred spirit who would embrace and embody your company\u2019s core values in real, tangible ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can maximize the chances of doing that by changing your onboarding process such that your company\u2019s core values\u2014those things that define your organizational culture, are at the forefront and an integral part of the onboarding process.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are three proven ways you can put in practice, beginning with your very next hire to do exactly that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Make Your Core Values Sticky<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first and simplest way to make your company\u2019s core values sticky is acrosticism and alliteration.&nbsp; So for instance:&nbsp; Cunning, Careful, Conscientious (all C\u2019s \u2013 alliteration), makes your core values easy to remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can\u2019t do that, you can go the acrostic route, and make the first letter of each core value spell out a word (CREW \u2013 Character, Results, Experience, and Wow\u2014the customer\u2019s experience).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not always an easy thing to do, depending on your particular values, but it is a relatively simple and straightforward way of making sure your defining values are easy to remember and always at tip of mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tell the Story Behind Your Company Values<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you own the company then the values of your firm no doubt came, in large part (or maybe even wholly) from you.&nbsp; There\u2019s a story in that.&nbsp; There are almost certainly specific reasons why you chose the values that you did to define your company, and thus, your culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Begin by telling a new hire the story (legend) of your company, then set the stage to make them an integral part of the continuation of that story.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Use a Buddy System to Reinforce Values<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s probably someone at your company who really stands out in your mind as really embodying your company\u2019s values\u2014and hopefully, many more than just one. These people are essentially <strong>Values Ambassadors<\/strong> and can be used as such.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are the people you want to pair your new hires with for the first few weeks, having them show the newbies the ropes, while simultaneously helping to really instill your core values into them right from the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along the way, your Values Ambassadors can also tell stories of instances where specific employees used your company\u2019s core values to solve problems for the business, or help take the company to a new level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a powerful one-two punch that can help ensure that your new hires are steeped in the values you want to find a permanent place in your company.
