Ideas for Celebrating 4th of July in the Office

It’s official.  We’ve turned the corner on the pandemic.  New cases and deaths have fallen sharply, the economy is beginning to open back up, people are coming back to the office, dining out, taking trips, and more.

Our current President has selected the Fourth of July as the day we’ll celebrate the turning point.  On or before that day, the goal is to have fully seventy percent of US Americans vaccinated against the virus.

It’s a great choice on a number of levels, and since many people will be back at the office by that point, it creates a unique opportunity for you.  If you were ever planning to have a blowout Fourth of July party at the office, this is unquestionably the year to do it.  If that’s what you’re planning, here are some ideas to help make your upcoming celebration absolutely unforgettable.

Decorations Galore

Most people already have at least a few Fourth of July themed decorations.  This is the year to take it to the next level.  Flags, banners, streamers, themed paper plates and napkins, red, white and blue plasticware, and the likes.  In other words, the works.  Make your office stand out, visually.

Food

Honestly, any successfully Fourth of July celebration is about two things:  Decorations and food.  Everything else is a bonus.  Just as you should take extra effort when it comes to decorations, you really want to pull out all the stops when it comes to food.

Your best bet (if possible) would be to find out which of your employees are grill masters when they’re not at the office, and enlist their aid in organizing the feast.  If there’s space in the parking lot, ask your talented grill artists to bring the tools of their trade.  They bring their grills, and you supply the food.

The good news here is that the go to Fourth of July classics are dogs and burgers, which are fairly inexpensive, but here, don’t skimp on the condiments and extras.  Lots of relish, lettuce, tomato and onion, and anything else you can think of that some people might like on their burgers and dogs.  If you’re not sure what your employees prefer, survey them to gain a better understanding.

Music

The best way to build a killer Fourth of July play list on YouTube Music, Pandora, or Spotify, is to grab 3-4 employees whose taste you admire and have them put their heads together.  In short order, they’ll come up with a list of tunes that will add a bit of flair to the day.  Odds are, you’ll like the playlist so much that you’ll want to save it for later.

Sweet Treats

Don’t forget about dessert!  The day of your big celebration will probably be a hot one, and with that in mind, if it’s possible, rent a soft serve ice cream machine and it will have your employees lining up around the block!  If that’s not possible, then tubs of ice cream in the nearest freezer will work too, but you’ll definitely want something cool or cold to help beat the heat and serve as the exclamation point at the end of your meal.

Games

Honestly, we’d recommend steering clear of games.  While they can be fun, they tend to have spotty participation, though if you do decide on a game, then a trivia style, team approach with good prizes to the winners would probably be the way to go.

If you step through the list above, you’re all but assured to have a Fourth of July celebration that your employees will be talking about for months.
