"As a teenager he studied for the priesthood and while he never took his vows, he went on to become the practical and spiritual mentor for generations of people.  His most famous speech, "What it takes to be Number One" continues to resonate with people of all ages and professions. From the time he was a young man, it was clear that he had a passion as well as an innate talent for the game of football. It was equally clear that it wasn't as a player that he could really make a mark. Graduating at the top of his college class as a business major, he began teaching and coaching football at a local high school. He went on to coach at Fordham University, and was then tapped by Earl Blaik of West Point to coach with him. This proved to be a seminal experience, and imbued within him technical prowess, a code of ethics and conduct, and the understanding about what it takes to be a leader. He proved that he internalized all those lessons by taking a losing team, the Green Bay Packers, and turning them into national champions. He did this by expecting of them no less than he expected of himself; Iron will, heroic effort, ethical conduct, and exemplary teamwork.
